Dear Friend,

About 5 years ago Mr. Akm Rahman called a meeting at the Coleman Young Community Center, with a group of community activist from the Metro Detroit area. These community activist were appalled that so many of our neighbors were in such desperate proverty, and they wanted help

  • They formed Hope Center, Inc. to give immediate relief, by distributing food to the poor. Over the years, more than 500 volunteers have distributed food from the center’s offices. We also often deliver food directly to the homes of the poor, who don’t have transportation. We also offer a range of other services. Over the years Hope Center has expanded its services and recently reshaped in organizational structure. Today it is a 501©3 tax-exempt organization located on 1.5 acres of land on at the corner of Joseph Compau and Carpenter roads. The site was Formerly Krejenke Buick’s used car lot and our building covers 2,700 square feet,. The front of the building (400 sq feet) has been extensively remodeled in the last year. When Hope Center was formed, we had no idea that the national economy would soon face the worst slump since the Great Depression!  Since our region is so heavily dependent on the now ailing auto industry, the local poverty is, for many, absolutely devastating. The services we offer are needed now, more than ever! Our Web site www.hope center.org fully explains our mission and has many photos of our programs and successes. We are now looking at renovate the remaining 3,300 sq, feet, which was formerly, Krejenke’s service garage. We are planning to build office space, rest rooms and have a large meeting area that will serve as a “community Center” Additional plans call for landscaping and signage. Hope Center provides these services today and we will continue to do so:
  • ·        Monthly food distribution
  • ·        Computer workshops
  • ·        English as a Second Language Classes
  • ·        Job Search as an Access Site for Michigan Works!
  • ·        Meeting place for senior citizensWith the renovated space, we plan to offer these much-needed services.
  • ·        After-school activities for youth
  • ·        Free tax services and consultation for the those at the poverty level
  • ·        Family health clinic services for indigentWe are also working acquiring off-site facilities that can serve as an emergency temporary shelter for the homeless and bettered or abused spouses. We work with local agencies and organizations, including Pro-Literacy Detroit, People Community Services, ACCESS, Detroit Michigan Work’s Agency, the Bangladeshi American Community Services and R & U Associates LLP.Here is how you can help:
  • ·        Volunteer to assist in our programs. We are always in need of assistance with the monthly food distribution, tutors who can speak Arabic, Bangla, and Polish, and people who can provide transportation for families who cannot afford a car.
  • ·        Donate as much as you can today, perhaps pledging a monthly amount for our operating expenses and renovation fund.
